Phew, took longer than I wanted it to take (because of work getting in the way...gawd I hate that place now), but its finally done
Jake Sully as an "avatar", a human/Na'vi hybrid from James Cameron's Avatar.
Started out with a rough sketch in photoshop that took about 10mins using a photo reference, then started to add some rough black and white values all on the same layer as the sketch to define the shape.
After that I continued to shade, blend and add more detail before creating an overlay layer and adding some quick base colours and then merged them to the black and white painting. Ive finally conquered painting from greyscale to colour WOOP WOOP
Once it was turned into a colour painting I really worked at the detail, colours, shading and worked out the kinks in the proportions.
The final touches where stuff like the glowing freckle things, which were done on a seperate layer so I could add an outer glow effect before merging them. Also added a little bit of noise to give the skin some much needed texture and it looks AWESOME
Oh yeah and theres the background I did, pretty nifty for me, all done on one layer All of it
1. Yep, I used photoshop with a wacom bamboo graphics tablet. If your gonna do some digital painting and stuff, Id highly recommend getting a tablet, it makes things alot easier and flexible than using a mouse, since you've got the added ability of pressure when painting Doesnt have to be an expensive one, for the first two years I made do with a £15 cheap one off ebay
2. Course I can will comment on your work now
